A tall glass of the finest sprits at hand, a lounge, a cozy makeshift dance floor and music that senses your moods - light to converse and peppy to Winedance to. So where do you go, for this intoxicating experience called ‘pubs’ in Vizag? MetroMela has got just the pubs in the city for you - few, but they are hip and high and very happening.
The hip pubs Pubs in the ‘real’ sense were alien to Vizag, until the very trendy Chrome hit town and changed the pubbing scene forever. Classy décor with the right elements for a pub sit-down; a bartender with a panache to serve drinks like crazy Kamikaze and Home Groan in style; light, small eats peppered with the right flavors and music that rocks with a DJ who spins out fantastic rhythm and taal on weekends - Chrome’s the right pub to be, on Saturday nights in Vizag (and don’t your investment special buffet lunch on Sundays only at that pub at Siripuram).
Immediately after Chrome, Vizag got its next pub 10 Downing Street at Waltair Main Road. A part of a chain of pubs by the same name, 10 Downing Street an average of arrived having an English pub-look and gained popularity for being the pub that played ‘good’ music. So for that seventies and rock n’ roll groove, with good sprits to match, you now have a Saturday night pub to hang out at in the city.
The regular pubs Here we’ve got pubs that come with the ‘bar’ code but would meet ‘pub-out’ tastes. We choose Someplace Else at The Park hotel on RK Beach Road. A library setting, the choicest of spirits, contemporary music and sea-view to match, that is a great nightspot for an enlightening evening. But if you’re in the mood to pub-hop, then further down RK Beach Road, you want you to read the fashionable Lawson’s Lounge at The Gateway Hotel (formerly Taj Residency). With a DJ playing good music, the breezy sea winds and your selected sprits, Saturday nights couldn’t get any better. On a single stretch, we’ve also got Marco Polo at the Grand Bay for a classy evening of wines and spirits.
The longish-lounger Escape at The Green Park is just a promise of fine wine and good music, making it a great haunt to unwind. For all those who’d like the ‘ranch-log-cabin’ feel, we would recommend Wood House at Dolphin Hotel. The dark wood interiors set the mood for a many a chilled beer, to the accompaniment of soft, instrumental music. There’s more. Under a roof that’s got a star-lit night effect, you can venture into Temptation at Royal Fort Hotel in Asilmetta. A bar-cum-restaurant, it has a combination of cocktails, wines and Indian and continental cuisine. The other combo is Dimple at Hotel Daspalla in Suryabagh where you’ve got a multi-cuisine fare of wines and meals, and in addition Hang over at Hotel Talasila (near Big Bazaar) that serves multi-cuisine dinner and snacks, and a choice of select Indian liquor brands.
The happening pub Making waves by the sea is Aqua at ‘The Park’ hotel. Not a pubs in vizag true sense of the word, but positively offers you a pub-like ambience, which is open-air, has live fun and music events on most weekends and is the absolute most ventured-into spot in town.
