Peter Norton the inventor of Norton Utilities, first published the version for DOS in 1982. The second version was released about a year later, subsequent to the first hard drives for the IBM PC line. In 1990, Peter Norton's Company was sold to Symantec. However his name remains as a "brand name" for Symantec's range of utility and security software for home users. There were 14 programs included in the 3 floppy disks for $80. The programs are the UnErase - recovers erased files, FileFix - repairs damaged files, FileHide - interactive hidden file control, BatHide - automatic hidden file control, FileSort - keeps floppy disk files by date or name, DiskOpt - speeds floppy disk access, ScrAtr - sets DOS to work in any colors, TimeMar - it displays date, time, elapsed time, SecMod - for easy changes to floppy disks, diskLook - complete floppy disk displays and maps, and many more. The norton utilities is one of the oldest registry cleaner in the market. It's just unbelievable to see how they managed to survived in the technological competition for almost 3 decades.
