There are two different ways the energy sources are merged in hybrid cars. The parallel hybrid is one way, and it's equipped with a gasoline tank and an engine that uses gasoline, and an electric motor that is supplied energy from a battery set. The other way is the series hybrid where the gasoline engine gives power to the generator. The gas-fueled generator can provide power to the transmission and also it can be utilized to charge the battery.

As the popularity of hybrids continue to rise and the cost of developing them goes down, it will reach a point where there is no reason not to get a hybrid. You will find that the smog produced will drop and the amount of fuel used will drop off dramtically.
